K.Rene Ford

Born and raised Texas girl with a lifetime interest in all art, experimenting with many different mediums through-out life. Nature has always provided of her favorite materials and loves creating from the purest form. Paper and Fiber arts are among some of her earlier passions with inspiration starting when K.Rene discovered one of her favorite artist: Elsa Mora and finding Kirigami, the art of cutting paper. To then becoming infatuated with weaving and working with natural fibers that she would spin into yarns and use natural dyes to color.

The Start Of a Business

K.Rene always knew that she wanted to start a creative business and really focused on that idea after having her second child in 2006. Her eye was drawn to floating framed botanical art and started by making some pieces for her own home. From there a passion was born to create more work from natures paintbrush. Botanical designs primarily began as herbariums and mandala art with Ferns and flowers she pressed from the garden. Showcasing her creations anywhere possible was key to getting her love for creating into the world; joining Etsy, local craft markets in the city and teaching flower pressing classes.

.

Eventually dipping into the growing resin trend in 2009, the joy of displaying florals in resin grew. The endless possibilities of the medium were slowly realized through creating her own molds and making unique items that weren’t seen anywhere else. Now resin is VERY popular and its a chase to stay ahead of the game.

How Sentimental Preservation Started

Bouquet preservation wasn’t in the original plan.. After building interest in her work by attending many markets and teaching classes for a couple of years she had clients reach out to preserve their bouquets. Pressing sentimental flowers is a lot of pressure and perfecting the process was a necessity.. From there the wedding side of the business bloomed and after just 1 year she was able to quit her 9-5 job! Although its a everyday challenge running a business and taking care of 4 children, the reward is far greater! Below are the first two wedding designs, using beautiful vintage frames. (A collection K.Rene curates and shares with her brides.)

the future Plan

K.Rene has big plans this coming year for “The Botany Society”. While maintaining limited custom/bridal orders she wants to focus on her individual art. Explore more one of a kind resin designs (including furniture pieces) and branch out of only creating with flowers into using other natural materials and specimen including fruits, shells, bugs, feathers, pigments, taxidermy… all things nature can provide.
